“Mon National Conference 2025 Opens in Mawlamyine with Moment of Silence for Earthquake Victims”

The Mon National Conference 2025, organized by the New Mon State Party (NMSP), commenced this morning in Mawlamyine with a one-minute silence to honor victims of the recent earthquake disaster.

Held at the Dhamma Mala Mon Pariyatti Monastery in Zaygyo Ward, the four-day conference brings together 246 participants, including Mon Buddhist monks, political parties, civil society organizations (local and international), and invited delegates.

*Key Objectives of the Conference

  1. Strengthening national unity among Mon communities
  2. Reviewing principles for a federal democratic union
  3. Amending the draft Mon State Constitution to align with federalism
  4. Formalizing policies on Mon national affairs

  • Nai Lawi Aung (MUP Chairman)
  • Nai Win Kyi (Former Mon State Attorney General)

  • NMSP : 50 representatives (including Vice-Chairpersons, CEC members)
  • Mon Unity Party (MUP) : 46 delegates
  • Mon Progressive Party : 7 members
  • Mon Civil Society Organizations : 42 representatives
  • Invited observers and guests

*Background
Previous conferences were held in:

  • 2013 : Mawlamyine State Hall
  • 2016 : Kyaikmaraw Township (Palaung Village Monastery)
  • 2022; Ye Htaw Yay (NMSP Education Department Camp)

The event underscores ongoing efforts to advance Mon political aspirations within a federal framework.
