Towards the end of 1946, the Mon Ethnic Association Conference was held in Pa-nga village, Kyaikkhami District.
Many Mon people attended the conference, and the following two main resolutions were passed:
(1) To designate the 1st Waning day of Tabodwe as Mon National Day, to be observed annually. This date commemorates the founding of the city of Hanthawaddy by the two brothers, Samala and Wimala, on the 1st Waning day of Tabodwe in the year 1116 of the Buddhist Era.
(2) To demand that in the upcoming election, the Mon people be allocated separate voter lists and separate constituencies, similar to other ethnic nationalities such as the Shan and Karen. If the AFPFL (Anti-Fascist People’s Freedom League) fails to do so, the election is to be boycotted.
To implement the above resolutions, a Central Executive Committee of the Mon National Association was also elected.
The Central Executive Committee included: Mon Phoe Cho (Chairman), Nai Aung Htun (Chairman), Mon Than (Secretary), Nai Chan Mon (Joint General Secretary), Nai Mon Htaw (Saya Ho – Information and Propaganda), and the following Organizers: Mon Tun Yin, Saya Sein, Nai Tun Khin, and Nai Aung Hla Ngwe.
