Although General Aung San and the leaders of the Anti-Fascist People’s Freedom League (AFPFL) made decisions regarding the affairs of the Shan, Kachin, Chin, and Karen ethnic nationalities at the preliminary AFPFL conference, they did not wish for a separation between the Mon and Bamar when it came to the affairs of the Mon people, holding the position that the Mon and Bamar were one and the same.
They only wished to work for the development of Mon literature and culture.
General Aung San explicitly stated at the preliminary AFPFL conference that the stance taken towards the Karen people could not be applied to the Mon.
