When Mon organizations and leaders from Mawlamyine submitted their demand for a Mon State, one of the points included was the request to incorporate 58 Mon villages currently situated in Kayin State into the proposed Mon State.
When members of the National Advisory Council came on a field visit to assess the proposed state boundaries, they were also presented with this request to include the 58 Mon villages into Mon State.
This request from the Mon side to have these villages included in Mon State is said to be based on a prior promise made by the Kayin State government, which had agreed to allow these 58 Mon villages to be incorporated into Mon State if the Mon people so desired.
It is also known that the Mon population living in those 58 villages expressed their desire to be included within Mon State.
