More than 26,000 illegal foreign workers, including Myanmar nationals, have been arrested in the last week, according to reports from the Department of Labor Management of Thailand.
The Department of Labor Management of Thailand reported that more than 26,000 illegal undocumented foreign workers, including Vietnamese, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia nationals, were arrested and prosecuted within a week.
After the Military Council seized power in Myanmar, there are people who have gone to live in Thailand in various ways for various reasons. In addition, due to armed conflicts and the military service law enacted by the Military Council, local youth and middle-aged people between the ages of 18 and 35 are still leaving for neighboring countries, including Thai, in various ways.
According to the Thai government’s 120-day plan to eliminate illegal workers, between 5th of June and 12th of June, the Thai authorities raided 1,774 factories, workshops, and workplaces in Thailand and arrested a large number of illegal foreign workers.
When the Illegal Workers Prevention Plan Inspection Team conducted such inspections, of them are Myanmar nationals (20,111), Cambodian citizens (3971) and a total of 26 189 illegal foreign workers, including Lao citizens (1659) and other citizens (444), are living and working illegally. They were arrested due to lack of or incomplete work permits.
Out of the 240 arrested foreign workers, 190 are Myanmar nationals. Lao citizens (38) including Cambodian (8) citizens and (4) other citizens; Other arrested workers were fined according to the crime. The Department of Labor Management of Thailand also said that they are taking measures such as deportation.
According to Thailand’s labor law, if a migrant worker in Thailand is found to be absent from the place of work (or entering the workplace without a work permit), he will be fined from 5,000 baht to 50,000 baht.
