Brigadier General Aung Thet Oo, commander of the Myanmar junta’s 77th Infantry Division, has been captured alive by resistance forces after fleeing the Japanese Cave Hill base in Indaw, Sagaing Region. The operation was carried out by units under the command of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) of the National Unity Government (NUG).

The brigadier general, who escaped from the military council’s last stronghold in Indaw on the night of April 7, was apprehended on April 8 by People’s Defence Force (PDF) troops while attempting to retreat. Sources within the revolutionary movement confirmed the capture but declined to disclose further operational details at this stage.
“The arrest has been verified. He is indeed the commander of the 77th Division,” a resistance source told The media.
Aung Thet Oo, a graduate of the 42nd intake of the Defence Services Academy, previously served as a colonel and tactical commander of the Kawthaung military region before his promotion to lead the 77th Division.
The fall of Indaw marks a significant victory for NUG forces following an eight-month offensive under MOD’s Regional Command No. 1. The operation involved coordinated attacks by multiple resistance groups, including PDF battalions, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA)’s Brigade 9, and the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF).
The junta’s abandoned positions yielded substantial weaponry, including two 120mm mortars, two howitzers, and assorted small arms and ammunition.
